SDF convenes meeting at Namthang-Rateypani


NAMCHI, 22 Jan: With the Panchayat elections approaching, the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front held its first party meeting of the New Year aimed towards creating awareness amongst party workers and the youth of Namthang-Rateypani constituency.
The meeting, held yesterday at Rateypani ground with the SDF vice-president (E), KB Chamling as chief guest, was also attended by the area MLA, Buildings Minister Tilu Gurung, VP (S) GM Gurung, GS (S) RN Rai, GS (S) Cheli Morcha Manita Mangar and other senior party members and SDF supporters.
Addressing the meeting, the chief guest highlighted that the SDF government has brought about substantial changes in the State under the leadership of party president, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. He further said that the people and youth of the state have to take up their responsibility in building a strong foundation for the party and work for the up-liftment of the state.
The Minister in her address informed that the party has elected new members from the ward to the constituency level and these new members must take up their responsibility sincerely and work for the party and people.
The Minister alleged that the opposition group is misleading people, giving the instance of a recent visit by the group to Tanzi-Bikamet where they misinformed villagers on the Rural Housing Scheme. Here, she urged all party workers to not allow such incidents to happen again.
The Minister further urged all party workers and people to refrain from groupism with regard to Panchayat election tickets, adding that the party is yet to decide on the candidates.
The programme was also addressed by VP (S), GM Gurung, GS (S), RN Rai, GS Frontal Organization Satish Chandra Rai, Secretary Frontal Organization Balbir Tamang, GS (S) ChaliMorcha Manita Mangar.
