The Girls from Gangyap are National Champs now!

EMRS GIRLS CREATE HISTORY, OUTPLAY APS NOIDA TO BECOME FIRST SCHOOL FROM REGION TO LIFT CBSE UNDER-19 NATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

GANGTOK, 18 Dec: The EMRS girls basketball team has created history by winning the under-19 CBSE Basketball nationals held in Chennai from 12-17 Dec. EMRS beat APS Noida in the finals on Saturday 47-30. The EMRS squad made their victory even sweeter by bouncing back strong despite being 5 points behind in the 3rd quarter.

In the final quarter, the EMRS girls started strong with Diki shooting a pair of 3-pointers in the very start which was supported by some superb shooting by T Eden, Pem C and Rinchen. Captain Nim Doma came up with 3 excellent steals to score 6 quick points. She went on to be adjudged the Player of the Tournament.
The team held its nerve and surged past the formidable APS Noida line-up which could not recover in time from the adroitness of the EMRS resurgence.
Even the 6 feet tall Indian national player of Noida could not do much as she was guarded by Nim Lhamu and Rinchen.
The EMRS team is made up of Nim Doma Bhutia, Rinchen D Bhutia, Nim Lhamu Bhutia, Tshering Eden Bhutia, Diki Doma Bhutia, Pem Choden Lepcha, Manita Subba, Bimochan Tamang, Kinzang Chomo, Kinchumit Lepcha, Binu Hangma and Tashi Tshering Sherpa.
In the run up to the finals, the Sikkim girls beat the following teams – SCRM-Haryana, Kochi-Kerala, MSVP-Jaipur, Montford-Delhi [pre-quarters], TMS-Dubai [quarter] and Yuganter-Chattisgarh [semi-finals].
This is the first gold at the nationals for a team from cluster-1 north east region. Despite the lack of a proper court to practice on [they have only a rudimentary mud court at school], the EMRS girls have gone on to beat some of the finest schools from across the country and abroad whose teams train in the best facilities. This is undoubtedly a feat without equal.

  3. we keep reading that they still don't have a proper court to practice on. If they are making the state so proud don't you all think it's time we do something about it? Surely, i feel, the sports & youth affairs dept. could build them a court.
Maybe with this we can have another bhaichung bhutias in basketball too??
