GJM rallies in Gangtok to thank Sikkim

GANGTOK: A rally was taken out jointly by the state unit of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and Sikkim Chalak Mahasangh to express gratitude to Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, his Cabinet colleagues, the MLAs and the people of Sikkim on Wednesday. This, for the Resolution passed by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly yesterday in support of the demand for Gorkhaland.
The rally flaunted banners and placards expressing thanks to the Chief Minister, his Cabinet Ministers and to the people of Sikkim. It started from Hotel Hungry Jack and concluded at Zero Point.

The rally moved forward raising slogans “Pawan Chamling Zindabad, Bimal Gurung Zindabad, Sikkim Janta Amar Rahos etc”.
The president of the state unit of GJM, Bhawani Pradhan, mentioned that the passing of a resolution supporting the statehood demand was a most historic moment for the Gorkhaland movement till date.
He added that understanding the need and desire of the people, the Chief Minister, passed the resolution and it would help in the separate statehood movement for Gorkhaland.
Mr Pradhan said that the Gorkhaland demand, being a Constitutionally-valid demand, other north-eastern states should follow Sikkim’s example and pass resolutions in their legislative assemblies as well.
On the occasion, both the organisations also urged all the political parties in the Darjeeling hills to withdraw their candidates from the upcoming elections and support the GJM to raise a “single voice for Gorkhaland” in the West Bengal Assembly.
“It is time for the leaders and the people of Darjeeling hills to show their solidarity and unity in support of the Gorkhaland demand,” he stressed.
These organisations have also requested the state government here to allow two days holiday to government employees from West Bengal working in Sikkim to allow them to cast their votes in Darjeeling.
