ANGTOK, 21 Aug: In the coordination with the Health Care and Human Services & Family Welfare department, the Sikkim State Legal Services Authority is organizing a three-day training programme for Paralegal Volunteers on how to tackle the high suicide rate in the State.
The ‘Training of Trainers on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention' is scheduled to begin on Monday at Sikkim Judicial Academy training centre. The inaugural session will be held at the High Court Auditorium and is expected to be attended by Justice Narendra Kumar Jain, Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court.
More than 40 Para-Legal Volunteers, extended arms of Sikkim State Legal Services Authority from across the state are participating in the training.
Earlier this year in June, the High Court had directed the Department of Health care and Family Welfare to coordinate with the Sikkim State Legal Services Authority to create awareness on suicide as a curable disease and not a crime.
