GANGTOK 21 Aug: Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Sikkim, and the All India Nepali Bhasa Sangarsh Samiti have welcomed Chief Minister Pawan Chamling’s announcement to appoint Graduate and Post Graduate Teachers for Nepali from the next academic session onwards in Sikkim.
In a press release, Nepali Sahitya Parishad, Sikkim, welcomes the announcement by pointing out that the appointment of Nepali language teachers in Upper Elementary and Senior Secondary levels will help in the development of the language and improvement of its standard.
Anjan Upadhyaya, general secretary of the All India Nepali Bhasa Sangharsh Samiti, in turn adds that they have been demanding the appointment of Nepali language teachers since the early 1990s and adds the State government’s announcement was a positive step forward for improvement and preservation of language and its development.
He also urged the government to use Nepali as an official language and use use it on signboards along with English.
He has also welcomed the state government initiative to approach the Central Government with a request to include Nepali language as part of the optional languages in the UPSC and other central level competitive examinations.
