GANGTOK, 30 July: On the auspicious occasion of Drukpa Tshechi, the Governor of Sikkim, Shriniwas Patil and the First Lady Smt. Rajanidevi Patil have extended their warm greetings to the people of Sikkim.
In his message the Governor has said, “Drukpa Tshechi marks the day on which Lord Buddha gave his first teaching on Four Noble Truths to his first five disciples at Sarnath, turning on the Wheel of Dharma. We celebrate this day in Sikkim by holding prayers and religious ceremonies at the sacred monasteries with great festivity and reverence.
Let us pray for enlightening our life with the teachings and sermons of Lord Buddha. May the middle path shown by Lord Buddha be the guiding light in shaping our destiny.
The Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and Smt Tika Maya Chamling have also extended warm wishes and greetings to the people of Sikkim on the auspicious occasion of Drukpa Tshechi.
In his message the Chief Minister has urged the people to study and internalize the teachings of Lord Buddha and to follow the middle path. He added that the festival holds great significance as it marks the day when Lord Buddha gave his first teachings to his disciples.
