PHE Minister chairs first coordination meet

GANGTOK, 29 May: A coordination meeting was organized by Water Security & PHE department at Nirman Bhawan, which was chaired by Minister for the department, Tulshi Devi Rai.
A press release informs that the PHE Joint Secretary, in his welcome address, congratulated the Minister on her landslide victory in the elections and formally welcomed her to the department. An introduction session followed during which all the officers and employees of the department exchanged introductions with the Minister.
The Chief Engineer placed a brief report on the activities of the department and apprised the Minister of various projects being undertaken by the department.
During the general session, officers discussed various issues related to speedy completion of projects and smooth service delivery and also many impediments affecting the same such as problems in land acquisition, insufficient maintenance fund, etc. The Minister assured them of every possible help to redress these issues at the earliest.
Addressing the meeting, the Secretary Ghanashyam Sharma opined that the department will surge ahead under the guidance of the Minister and urged all to emphasize on quality works. He also underlined the need for creating a permanent solution to providing smooth service delivery as frequent landslides and other natural forces disrupt water supply pipelines more often than not and informed the meeting that a tunneling project in this regard has already been placed before the government which is under consideration, the release mentions.
The Minister, in her address, thanked all the officers and employees of the department for attending the coordination meeting. She stressed that government servants must be committed to provide reliable service to the people. She urged the officers to conduct a detailed study before any project is sanctioned in order to turn every project into a successful one.
Ms Rai also stressed that the department should try to find some way to revive some failed projects as a lot of public money has been spent on these. She assured all the officers and employees all possible help from the government. The meeting concluded with the vote of thanks by the Special Secretary of the department.
