Cultural Affairs Department organises Heritage Appreciation Tour for college students

GANGTOK, 26 May: The Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department organized a two-day Heritage Appreciation Tour for college students to West Sikkim on 24 and 25 May. 

A press release informs that 75 students from Sikkim Government College and Rhenock Government College were taken for the tour escorted by the official members of Cultural Affairs & Heritage Department, DK Singh [Archives-cum-Archaeological Officer] and LN Sharma [Inspector]. Besides, there were resource persons from Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Pankaj Kumar Das [Conservation Assistant Grade I] and two resource persons from Rhenock Government College, Jigme Bhutia [Assistant Professor] and Chopel Lepcha [Assistant Professor].

The students were taken to Rabdentse and Norbugang and Dubdi monastery in Yuksom. The basic objective of organizing this tour was to impress upon the young minds the value of our heritage properties, the release mentions.

During the tour the ASI official highlighted on conservation of the monuments, techniques applied for restoration of the structure and composition of the mortars that are used for its consolidation. The Assistant Professors delivered brief lecture on ‘History of Lamaism in Sikkim’ vis-a-vis the three national monuments of West Sikkim, the release adds.
