Campaigning picks up in Namthang Rateypani

NAMCHI, 26 Mar: After the declaration of PS Tamang [Golay] as the SKM candidate from Namthang-Rateypani constituency, election campaigning is heating up here in the constituency. The SKM president will be contesting against sitting MLA Tilu Gurung.

The SDF youth wing organised a campaign meeting here at Kateng village today. Addressing the meeting, Zilla Panchayat member Birjan Tamang urged the people to vote for SDF and not to get misled in the name of caste and community.

Ranjit Tamang, in turn, said that the leader of the opposition will probably go around seeking out relatives but people should stick to SDF.

SDF also denied any truth in rumours of the party’s youth convener of the constituency, Sanjeet Kharel, having joined SKM on Tuesday. At the meeting, Mr. Kharel himself denied the rumours and stated that he is very much the SDF youth convenor of Namthang Rateypani. He clarified that Mr Tamang had visited him last evening in the course of his election campaigning.

The meeting was also attended by Kumar Tamang, husband of MLA Tilu Gurung.

On the other hand, Mr. Tamang was given a warm welcome by his party supporters here at Namthang last evening when he reached the constituency. SKM supporters welcomed him with loud sloganeering and fireworks. He filed his nomination today at the office of Returning Officer, South and was escorted by a huge number of supporters.
