GANGTOK, 06 Feb: I-League Second Division preliminary round
of Group B will be starting tomorrow here at Paljor Stadium. Five clubs from
different parts of the country in group B will take each other on to qualify for
the final round of the I-League Second Division.
The group A teams are Hindustan FC [Delhi], Kenkre FC
[Mumbai], Eagle FC [Kerala], Bhawanipore FC [Kolkata] and Aizwal FC [Mizoram].
Tomorrow, the first match will be played between Aizwal FC
and Eagle FC at 11:30 AM, which will be followed by the other match between
Kenkre FC and Bhawanipore FC.
It may be mentioned here that Gangtok has been chosen as one
of the venues this time for the preliminary round of the I-League Second
Division, while another six teams in group A will be playing the preliminary
round at Dhanbad.
Sikkim Football Association’s general secretary, Menla
Ethenpa informs that all five teams have already arrived in Gangtok and have
been practicing at Paljor Stadium as per schedule. “Only the top two teams from
each group will qualify for the final round and will join the home club United
Sikkim Football Club to play the ‘double leg league’ in the final round. However,
the venue has not been decided for the final round so far”, he said.
Mr Ethenpa mentioned that the SFA has been bringing
prestigious tournaments for the people of Sikkim and would continue to do so.
Sikkim Football Association has appealed to the people to
come to the stadium to witness the matches by I-League teams.
