GANGTOK, 14 Nov: On the occasion of the 124th Children’s Day, Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee [SPCC] today remembered the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, as the visionary who shaped India’s future. A pivotal figure in the Indian independence movement, Nehru was born on 14 November, 1889 in Allahabad.
An SPCC press release informs that the party celebrated the day with a function during which the SPCC president Kunga Nima Lepcha highlighted Pandit Nehru's affection towards children. Celebrating Children's Day is about giving children the right to enjoy and grow into healthy and educated citizens of the country, he said.
Amongst the gathering were senior vice president, Major T. Gyatso, INTUC president Kinley Gyaltsen, SPCC general secretary Rudra N Shakya along with other PCC members in the function held today at the SPCC head office, Gangtok.
General secretary (communication), Doncee Lama, stated that being a national party, people should have nationalist views and agendas. Local people are sentimental and are grounded regionally but keeping aside the regional feeling, people should volunteer and be aware about centrally allocated schemes, she said.
People say that they have been given model houses by the state but these have infact been provided through a central scheme so far, she contended.
