GANGTOK, 03 Oct: The Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd., Zero Point, Gangtok is organizing a District Level Event at the premises of Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom, Pelling, West Sikkim from 01-05 October.
The event, sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, was inaugurated by Yangthang MLA, PL Subba on 01 October. The event had an exhibition-cum-sale of handloom items which had contingents from Manipur, Guwahati along with local Weavers / SHGs from different corners of the state.
A press release informs that the event is an annual feature of Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd. which is proving to be a boon for weavers as their products are sold in large numbers. It also provides a readymade marketing platform for the local weavers, SHGs and PUCs.
During the inaugural function, information relating to Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Weavers Credit Card, Yarn Pass Book, subsidy on yarn purchase through National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd. and various I.H.D.S. schemes implemented in different places of West Sikkim was provided by Assistant Director (Marketing), Gangtok, Tshering Dorjee Gyamptso.
