Sikkim Tibetans come together to protest Chinese repression and demand UN Intervention in Tibet

GANGTOK, 11 Nov: The Tibetan Youth Club and Tibetan Women’s Association took out a rally here in Gangtok today seeking justice and in support of the 11 Tibetans who had set fire to themselves, six of whom have died in eastern Tibet since March this year in protest against the Chinese occupation.
More than 500 people participated in the rally. The rally started from Chokasum situated at Nam Nang and passing through Deorali went up to Zero Point and coming down from Tibet Road passed through Kazi Road and ended at Chokasum.
“Tibetans in exile have reacted to the pain and suffering inside Tibet, particularly in the Ngaba and Karze areas, where most of these self-immolations have occurred, with horror and anxiety. The monks and nuns who immolated theselves were sacrificing their bodies to draw the world’s attention to Chinese repression in Tibet”, informed Chung Chung, president of TYC, while speaking to NOW!.
“In exile, we support those in Tibet who are on the front line protecting their religious and cultural integrity; we try to ensure that their voices are heard by the world community. On October 19, we organised a day-long prayer and fast worldwide, in accordance with our Buddhist traditions, in solidarity with those who self-immolated. It is our responsibility to make sure that the calls of those Tibetans for restoration of freedom are heard, and their sacrifices are not in vain,” he further added.
The Tibetan associations here have urged the United Nations and the international community to send fact-finding delegations to Tibet and view the situation firsthand.  The associations are demanding that the international community pressurize the Chinese government to restore freedom and resolve the issue of Tibet through dialouge for the mutual benefit of the Tibetan and Chinese people.
