GANGTOK, 20 Nov: Lok Sabha MP from Sikkim, PD Rai, through a press release, has expressed reservations over the views of member of Minorities Commission, Spalzes Angmo, who was recently on a visit to the State to assess the damages and relief measures being carried out in the wake of the 18 Sept earthquake.
“In view of the media reports which have shown our Government in a different light due to her utterances on the issue of the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa and a specific hydro project in West Sikkim it is to reiterate that the Member ought be careful in her utterances as it might not be taken well in several circles including those in New Delhi,” the release states.
Mr. Rai further mentions that the Members of Parliament from Sikkim, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are following up the issue related to the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Dorjee with the Government of India. They have met the Prime Minister and Home Minister several times, which was fully substantiated by the former Rajya Sabha Member, Ambassador Karma Topden at a meeting in Phodong Gompa, the release clarifies.
The Minorities Commission member, in her statements, had given the impression that the State Government was not doing enough [in pursuing the matter with the Centre] to bring the Karmapa to Sikkim. She had also suggested that the State Government review its decision on the matter of hydel projects on the Rathong Chu.
Terming Ms Angmo’s views as ‘extreme provocation’ the Lok Sabha MP suggests that she ‘should not play to the whims of certain sections of the population who are opposed to the present Government and its policies’.
At the same time the MP welcomes her views on earthquake damages to monasteries, and adds, “We will seek to clarify this situation when we meet with her in person in Delhi to register our strong protest”.

To the above comment of Hon'ble MP Rai, the whole world is not Sikkim, ppl across India have their views and air them freely , unlike in Sikkim, where ppl are scared to truly say anything in the open , even on social networking sites!! Its good that Ms Spalzes has reservations about the dam project and has said so.....shows atleast one person hasn't been brought over by the Govt!
