MANGAN, 03 July: The “Rural Mart” dedicated to produce from Dzongu was inaugurated yesterday at Pentok, below St. Joseph’s School, Mangan, by Nava Samaj, a South Sikkim based NGO, in coordination with farmers clubs of Lyangtun, Susong and Mangzing. The outlet stocks pickles, organic vegetables and craft products from Dzongu.
The inaugural programme had the DHH Deputy Director, NT Lepcha, as chief guest and was also attended by the Facilitator NGO, NAVA Samaj’s president DK Rai, general secretary Govind Pradhan, VLW [Lingdong-Barfok GPU], and representatives from different farmer clubs of Dzongu.
The NAVA Samaj president, in his welcome address, stressed that NAVA Farmers Club has been working towards promoting organic products for the past few years, leveraging this sector to provide gainful employment for the youth and advised the gathered people to opt for bee keeping and mustard farming.
Lyangtun farmers’ club coordinator, ST Lepcha, expressed gratitude towards NAVA Samaj, NABARD and other concerned departments for providing a Rural Mart centre and assured that farmer clubs from Dzongu will try their best to provide quality products at reasonable prices.
