Bhaichung’s United Sikkim scores first win, beat Md Sporting


SIKKIM IN THE SECOND DIVISION I-LEAGUE
GANGTOK, 04 May: A lone goal by Johnny D Meyongar helped United Sikkim Football Club [USFC] registers its first win in the final round of second division I-League in Shillong on Wednesday. Bhaichung’s USFC had drawn all its previous three matches.
Playing this crucial match they gave its all and defeated Kolkata’s Mohammedan Sporting Club 1-0.
After three drawn matches in a row, this was a very crucial match for the club and the win has kept its hope alive in the final round. With this first win, the USFC is on the third position with 6 points from four matches at present. The top-2 teams will qualify for the main I-League. USFC still has 3 matches to play.

The captain, Johnny D Meyongar, scored the lone victory goal of the match in the 40th minute taking a strike from outside the D-area.
Bhaichung Bhutia, who is still recovering from his injury, played as a stopper today for around 20 minutes in the second half of the match.
USFC could have done better but was not able to take the advantage when Mohammedan Sporting was reduced to ten men in the 68th minute after Mumtaz Akhtar was sent off the field by the referee.
The USFC goalkeeper, Devjit Majumdar, was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Speaking over the phone from Shillong, the USFC senior manager, Arjun Rai, mentioned that the team played well but failed to score more in the match despite some good opportunities.
He mentioned that it was very important for the team to win this match to keep its hope to get qualify from the final round alive. Mr Rai stated that to win all the next three matches.
The USFC will be playing its next match against Southern Samity on 08 May and then against Arhima Club on 11 May and Vasco Sports Club on 14 May.
