One-man inquiry committee to submit report to CS on 01 Aug

GANGTOK, 30 July: The report of the one-man Inquiry Committee constituted by the state government to look into the incidents of 14 July at the Sikkim Government College premises which was to be submitted today, has been deferred to 01 August and will be submitted to the Chief Secretary on the said date.
Officials of the Human Resource Development Department [HRDD], while speaking to NOW! today informed that the one-man inquiry committee was constituted by the state government and that the HRD Department had no part to play in getting the report which they informed would be submitted to the Chief Secretary who will then recommend the report to the state government for necessary action according to what the report states.
The department has nothing to do with the report as it was a law and order situation so the DC [East] and the SP [East] who are directly concerned with the incident will be liable to answer to any queries regarding the incident, they informed.
But if there are any further enquires required to be given by the HRD Department regarding the incident then all necessary help will be provided by the department to the inquiry committee, they informed adding that all necessary action to be taken regarding the incident will be taken by the department only after the inquiry committee submits its report to the state government.
The state government, while appointing CT Wangdi, Secretary Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department as the one-man committee had given it time of 15 days to submit a comprehensive enquiry report.
Mr. Wangdi has heard the depositions of police personnel who were deployed at the spot of the lathicharge on 14 July, college students, victims of the police action and independent witnesses, it is informed. The report will be ready by 31 July, and is expected to be submitted on 01 August, inform sources close to the Secretary.
