Inter-Departmental League Football enters second round in South Sikkim

NAMCHI, 25 July: The ongoing Inter Department League Football Tournament moved into the second round matches here at the Singithang football ground yesterday.
Being organised by South District Government Drivers Association (SDGDA), the tourney had begun on 21 July with 12 government departments participating.
As informed by the organizing committee of the tournament, six matches were played between the departments in the first round in which Sports & Youth Affairs defeated UD&HD 4-nil, DAC/Land Revenue outplayed Buildings & Housing 2-0, Agriculture/Horticulture defeated PHED five goals to nil, Health beat Power 3-0, RMDD defeated Forest department 3-1 and HRD Department held Roads & Bridges to a goalless draw.
The second round matches began on 24 July with Buildings & Housing Department beating UD&HD 2-1 in the first match followed by SYA winning 1-0 against DAC/ Land Revenue.
Today, the two matches of the day were played between PHE Department against Power Department and Health Department against Agriculture/ Horticulture Department. Power Department emerged victorious 2-1 and in the second match, Health Department won 2-1.
On Saturday, RM&DD will take on Roads & Bridges in the first match and it will be Forest versus HRDD in the second match of the day.
Speaking with this correspondent, president SDGDA, Denzong Tamang, said that the association had tried to bring all the departments of South District together with this football tournament and remarked that playing games and sport will not only help physical fitness but also bring relief to all government employees from their daily stress and workload.
