Football clubs want SFA to deliver or step aside

GANGTOK, 30 July: Football Club Association of Sikkim [FCAS] has demanded that Sikkim Football Association conduct football tournaments for Under-14, U-16 and U-19 at the district and then at the state level immediately after 15 August. The FCAS has also demanded the immediate resignation of the SFA president, BK Roka, vice-president, Karma Yougyal and general secretary, Menla Ethenpa, for what it sees their failure to deliver anything concrete for the development of football in Sikkim.
While making these demands in a press conference held on Tuesday, the FCAS members clarified that football clubs in the state will not boycott the Second Division and Senior Division Sikkim-League and Governor’s Gold Cup if these two demands of the association are fulfilled at the earliest. However, they also clarified that the football clubs have not been boycotting any national level tournaments and Independence Day Football Tournaments but just want the welfare of footballers in the state.
FCAS has also demanded that SFA sit down for talks with 5 senior division clubs and 8 second division clubs. They also stated that the resignations by these three members would help Sikkim football flourish.
Addressing the press conference, FCAS president and former Indian football team skipper, Bhaichung Bhutia, expressed that it is surprising that SFA has never used the experience, knowledge, views and service of former footballers of the state but instead ignored their services even if such people wanted to help.
However, he stated that SFA was by an large a good body but that a few members dominated others and compromised the sport and do not take into account others opinions. “The views and stand of the SFA just belong to a few members since not all the members of the association are involved in decision making,” he added.
Bhaichung alleged that the SFA has never put any effort for the Sikkim-League like it does for the Governor’s Gold Cup. He also stated that the ongoing dispute between the FCAS and the Sikkim Football Association is not about posts but about taking Sikkim football forward.
Members of different clubs also alleged about the poor organization of the Sikkim-League.
They also demanded that the SFA organize proper training camps for a few weeks before sending the state team outside to participate in national tournament
s.
FCAS general secretary, Phurba Sherpa reiterated their demand that the SFA provide membership with voting rights to the football clubs in the state. He mentioned that as per the SFA’s constitution membership should be provided to ex-footballers but SFA have never invited any ex-footballers and even denied membership to those who approached the association. He also demanded that the SFA show the list of ex-footballers in the association.
He also refuted the allegation of the SFA that FCAS has been obstructing the conduct of football coaching camps for state teams in different national tournaments. The FCAS has never boycotted any national tournaments but instead demanded that better camps be organised for the state teams.
Mr Sherpa mentioned that following a government notification, more than 50% of the SFA members have already resigned from the association. On the same, he added that after resignation of 50% of its members the association is required to dissolve the body to conduct fresh elections.
Bhaichung informed that the FCAS has already written to the All India Football Federation for its intervention regarding the various issues. “If necessary we will open a new football association in the state by fulfilling all criteria of the AIFF for the betterment of football and footballers in the state”, he added.
