BSNL to beef up manpower to improve service in North Sikkim RANJIT SINGH

GANGTOK, 01 June: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has assured to increase manpower deputed to North Sikkim in order to provide more effective and more consistent service to the people of the district.  The BSNL Chief General Manager, West Bengal & Sikkim Circle, Hari Roy, has undertaken to look into the problem of inconsistent service by his company to the district as a result of which the people have been suffering for a long time.
His assurance was by way of a submission to the High Court of Sikkim after he had been directed to personally appear before the court. The High Court of Sikkim had earlier directed the BSNL chief of West Bengal and Sikkim to be present in court during the next hearing; this direction was in the context of the petition filed by people of North Sikkim aggrieved with the poor connectivity services being provided by BSNL.
In his submission before the Court, the Chief General Manager also informed that he had visited North Sikkim in order to understand the problems being faced by the public there and the reasons thereof.
Following his visit, the Chief General Manager, while appreciating the existing concerns of the people, informed that the services of BSNL had been improved particularly in Lachen and Lachung. The BSNL chief also informed that the manpower in North district would be enhanced; furthermore one Telecom Technical Assistant (TTA) would also be posted there.
On the other hand it was also submitted that the Power Department had also managed to improve its services as regards supply of power to the North district. In this regard it was informed that the Power department had increased the supply of power to the district and that their generator was now repaired and working.
While these submissions were made before the court the petitioners have also been allowed to examine the claims of both the BSNL chief and the Power Department as regards better services in North Sikkim and report back to the court by way of an affidavit.
The petition was filed by the Pipon and public of Lachen Dzumsa a couple of years ago alleging lack of amenities and poor services particularly on the part of the service provider BSNL.
