Sikkim NGOs attend seminar on Gender, Poverty and Employment for NE States

NEW DELHI, 27 May: Two teams of NGO workers of Sikkim are participating in a seminar cum training on “Gender, Poverty and Employment for North Eastern States” at VV Giri National Labour Institute in New Delhi. The seminar began on Monday and will conclude on 30 May.
One team is led by journalist cum treasurer Dikchu Youth Welfare Association, Wangchuk Bhutia along with Samuel Chettri (sports secretary) and three members of Nature Conservation Social Organisation (NCSO) of Lingchom, North Sikkim namely; Dawa Gyalpo Sherpa (president), Chewang Phurpa Sherpa (treasurer) and Latsho Sherpa (general secretary).
The other team has two members of Voluntary Health Association of Sikkim (VHAS) namely Subadhra Giri and Sunita Subba who attended the Training Programme on Strengthening Awareness on Labour Issues and Law pertaining to working women. This programme aims to discuss and address issues on how women and men can take advantage of employment opportunities, working conditions, benefits and security.
Designed for officials from Government Departments, Central Trade Unions, media persons and Non-Government Organisations, the seminar will address and strengthen the understanding of participants on interlinkages between gender, poverty and employment.
