MAINTAINING PEACE IS PARAMOUNT

Letters:-
Given the fact that it was a weekend and that Lal Market is specifically important for all Gangtokians to replenish their stock for the week, the development of 25 May 2014, in and around Gangtok was very disturbing.
It appears that the elected councillor of the area along with Deputy Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation were on routine inspection at Lal Bazaar. Instead of pushing the town to polarisation, any disagreements could have been addressed bilaterally through proper channel, by virtue of official protest by respective Welfare Association or through lodging FIR if there was any such skirmish.
It was really sad to know that the impulsive closure of shops at Lal Bazaar not only inconvenienced Gangtok residents but also economically deprived small time vendors, who travel to Gangtok early morning to sell their rural produce, as well.
This being taken up further by closure of MG Marg by traders and subsequently politicizing the situation is quite baffling. Those involved in initiating such an abrupt closure and holding the public in general to ransom without any serious reason is a matter to be dealt with seriousness.
Maintenance of peace in the State ought to be paramount within every resident of the State for the sake of our children.
