Now, there is a Gorkha Protection Force as well

NEW GROUP DEMANDS ASSEMBLY SEAT RESERVATION PROPORTIONATE TO POPULATION
GANGTOK, 08 Apr: Recently formed All Sikkim Gorkha Protection Force [ASGPF] has stated that the seat reservation for any community in the state assembly should be in proportion to its population here. Introducing itself as a “non-political” organization, the group believes that the political future of the Sikkimese Gorkha community was in peril if one goes by the election manifesto of the two major parties in the fray this election.
Addressing a press conference today, ASGPF convener KB Rai expressed that at present the number of Bhutia-Lepcha seats in the state assembly was not proportionate to the population of the two communities in the state. Both, SDF and SKM, he went on to point out, have promised to reserve seats for Limboo and Tamang communities without touching the BL seats, which, he said would be unfair to the majority community because such a step would reduce the political representation of the majority community into a minority.
Mr Rai commented that all political parties focus on BL-issues every time because of the pressure created by BL organizations in the state. In this regard, he said that ASGPF would now create pressure and lobby with the political parties in the interest of the Gorkha community.
Stating that the Revenue Order No 1 should be protected, he called for amendments to allow Sikkim Subject Certificate holders of Bhutia, Lepcha and Nepali communities to sell and buy lands from each other.
Mr. Rai further stated that the organization would visit all members of the Gorkha community and its leaders in the state to discuss issues related to the community.
