East DAC to shift to Pakyong, Gangtok to become fifth district in next term, CM announces SDF CAMPAIGN COVERS GNATHANG-MACHONG AND NAMCHEYBONG

GANGTOK, 02 Apr:  Sikkim Democratic Front president Pawan Chamling today announced the creation of another district in the state in the event that his SDF is voted back to office for another term. The East District Collectorate will be set up in Pakyong and Gangtok will have its own District Collectorate, Mr. Chamling announced today.
Mr. Chamling made the announcement while addressing a huge campaign meeting at Pakyong Bazaar today. As part of the SDF election campaign tour, he addressed the people of Gnathang-Machong and Namcheybong constituencies today at public meetings held at Pakyong bazaar and Ranipool respectively.
He also stated that Rolep power project would be started by the new government and the demand for a tea estate to be developed at Machong will also be fulfilled if the people could provide 500 acres of land for it.
Mr. Chamling mentioned that the SDF government has put Pakyong on the international map by bringing the airport to Pakyong along with benefits and opportunities to the people of the area. On the damages sustained by some houses in the area due to the airport construction work, he assured that the next SDF government would take every possible step to resolve this issue.
Pakyong, he announced, will be developed into a new township with an IT Park, big hotels, amusement parks and all modern facilities. “We have brought substantial opportunities to Pakyong but the people have to take advantage of these opportunities,” he stated further adding that more opportunities would be created for the people of the area.
Responding to demands of the people of the area, Mr. Chamling said that all the remaining works to improve road conditions will be completed by the next government and the Pakyong-Rhenock road would be widened as per the demands of the people. He added that the drinking water problem of the area would also be top on the priority list of the next government.
Speaking on the opposition, Mr. Chamling contended that the opposition parties have not yet conducted constituency-level public meetings as they do not have the support of the people. “They are going door-to-door trying to mislead people on communal lines but the people will never vote for them for such reasons,” he added.
The SDF party has been working to eradicate feudalism, secure equal status, opportunity and respect to the people in every sector and until that is achieved this movement will continue, said Mr Chamling. He also mentioned that the SDF government has provided equal opportunity and status to the SC community of the state and even established an atrocity court for them.
SDF Lok Sabha candidate, PD Rai assured to take up all issues related to the area with the centre if voted as an MP. He also assured to take up the Karmapa issue with fresh vigour in his next tenure as the MP along with the issue of Limboo-Tamang seat reservation with the concerned authorities.
Likewise, SDF Gnathang-Machong candidate, DT Lepcha also addressed the gathering regarding various issues and demands of the people of the area.
At Ranipool, Mr. Chamling assured beautification of Ranipool along with the construction of a Taxi Plaza and Truck Stand. He also assured to develop Ranipool and Pakyong as tourism destinations and industrial zones in the State.
