Sikkim Manipal College of Physiotherapy organises Futsal tourney

GANGTOK, 18 Feb: The Sikkim Manipal College of Physiotherapy (SMCPT) organized Red Athenea 2014, a Futsal (5-a-side format of football) tournament as part of an AIDS awareness campaign under the aegis of SSACS facilitated by NACO.
A press release informs that the five-day tournament saw the participation of 17 teams representing the various courses running under the University as well as the ancillary staff comprising of Sikkim Security Force, Sikkim Home Guards, Store Boys and the Engineering Section Team to mention a few. 
The inaugural match was attended by Consultant Architect RMDD, Doniv Rai as the chief guest. The program started with felicitation of the dignitaries by the faculties of SMCPT.
Assistant Professor SMCPT, Dr. Remon Chettri also the Peer Educator Red Ribbon Club delivered the welcome address and gave a speech on AIDS Awareness and measures of Rehabilitating HIV positive people back into the society.
Lecturer SMCPT, Dr Pratik Chettri informed that this is the fourth year of the tournament and now has become a much awaited calendar event for the staff and students of Sikkim Manipal University. The final match was held on 16 February between Tiger 5 and Political Science Boys. The well fought match saw Political Science boys emerging as winners with a score of 3-1, the release informs.
The chief guest for the day, CEO Physiocure, Dr. Tharkela Bhutia gave away the medals and trophies. Man of the Tournament title went to Gabriel of Pol Sc. Boys.

The RRC of SMCPT and Allied Health Sciences has thanked the sponsors, Sikkim State Aids Control Society and NACO for their continuous support in organizing such events with a message of AIDS awareness and emphasizing the role of a community in rehabilitation of the affected people, the release adds.
