Resettlement & Rehabilitation Committee constituted for SSB HQ land acquisition in West Sikkim

GANGTOK, 13 Dec: The state government has issued a notification constituting a Resettlement & Rehabilitation Committee in West Sikkim for establishing Sashastra Seema Bal’s 52nd Batallion Head Quarter.
As per the National Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy 2007, under  the Resolution F No. 26011/4/2007-LRD of the Government of India, Ministry of Rural Development, Department of Land Resources a committee for Resettlement and Rehabilitation is required to be constituted which shall include representatives of project affected persons for effective implementations of Resettlement and Rehabilitation Plan for Establishment of 52nd Battalion Head Quarter by Sashastra Seema Bal in Melli and Melli Aching block, West District of Sikkim.
In view of this Resolution and Policy of government of India, the state government has constituted a two-tier committee consisting of Supervisory body and Implementation body. Under the Supervisory body, Secretary, Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department is appointed as the Commissioner and Commandant, 52nd Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal has been appointed as Member of the Committee. Similarly under the Implementation body, District Collector, West, Gyalshing is the Administrator while Commandant, 52nd Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal, Member of Legislative Assembly, Yoksum Tashiding Constituency, all members of Melli and Melli Aching, Panchayat President of Melli-Aching GPU, Desu Maya Rai, Prem Kumari Rai (women’s representative), Man Bir Kami (Scheduled Caste representative), Sonam Wangdi Bhutia (Tribal representative), Phur Tshering Bhutia (representative of Voluntary Organization, Himalayan Environment and Tourism Development Organization),  Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Pelling, Revenue Officer-Cum-Assistant Director, Gyalshing Sub Division, (Government representative) are the Members.
Further, the State Government has also declared Gyalshing Sub-Division as a project affected zone and Melli and Melli Aching blocks as project affected villages.
