Christmas Carol Fest at Loyola College

NAMCHI, 22 Dec: South West Sikkim Deanery, ICYM Youth Commission, led by Youth Co-ordinator, Fr. Anthony Dewan, organised a three-day “Christmas Carol Festival-2013”, from 18 to 20 December, 2013, at Loyola College of Education, Namchi. The theme of the festival was “Rocking around the Christmas Tree”.
A press release informs that the festival attracted 161 youths from different Catholic Churches of South and West Sikkim Deanery. A variety of entertainment programmes and competitions like, Carol singing, Dance, Skit etc., was organised during the festival for the participants.
The festival started with a prayer service conducted by the Rector of the Loyola College of Education, Fr. Giles Lepcha S.J. Later, Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Darjeeling, Fr. Fintan Moktan delivered the Christmas message, it is informed.
Other prominent speakers included, Fr. David Yozan Rai and Fr. Antony Dewan. President of Self Employees Worker Association and advisory member, Sushil Tamang was also present on this occasion. The participants also visited the District Prison, Namchi, and sang carols for the staff and inmates. The Prison, Superintendent of Police, KL Tenzing welcomed the participants and interacted with them.
The main attraction of the festival was the two sharing sessions to motivate and enlighten the youth. The first session was “Theology of Body – Human Sexuality”, presented by Rita Rai, from Pedong and “Building Leadership” presented by Monica Mukhia from Darjeeling. On the last day, Sisters of Loreto (IBVM) and Sisters of Carmelite Missionaries (CM) organised a vocation camp for their respective religious congregations, it is added.
President of Diocesan Youth Commission, James Rai and IBVM, Deanery Youth Lady Animator, Sr. Matilda Lakra anchored the entire proceedings of the festival.
