SRM State University Act notified

GANGTOK, 07 Nov: The Shri Ramasamy Memorial (SRM) State University Bill has finally been notified by the State Government. Governor Srinivas Dadasaheb Patil had given his consent to the bill on 09 October, and the Act was accordingly notified on 22 October.
The SRM State University Bill which was passed by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly on 27 June 2012 was returned to the Sikkim Legislative Assembly by the last Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh for reconsideration of certain aspects. The State government then promulgated an ordinance in August and subsequently the Bill was passed by the House unanimously for the second time.
The SRM State University Bill was proposed for “creating skilled manpower, meet all needs of the industries and other developmental sectors, thereby sustaining the growth and productivity for creation of wealth and prosperity of the nation”.
After the promulgation and establishment of SRM University, the state government aims to “bring  professional education in the state, which would allow for flexible ways of acquiring competencies and qualifications as also enable career exploration, development, job transitions and mobility within and across industries and the developmental sector and also facilitate an open and flexible professional education that was dynamic and responsive to the ever-changing needs and advances of technology, education, the workforce, and the economy, incorporating innovative methods, ideas and resources to keep such professional education and training relevant and contemporary”.
