Monks of Sikkim questions State govt on Khecheopalri defilement incident of a decade back

GANGTOK, 14 Nov: Monks of Sikkim has questioned the State government on what action has been initiated against accused person who took a swim in Khecheopalri Lake in West Sikkim in 2003, an act seen as the monks and Buddhists here as defiling the lake. The issue had become a major issue a decade back and had even led to a Supreme Court case, where the State Government had reiterated its commitment to protect places of worship and religious significance. The Monks of Sikkim press release concludes with the warning, “In the absence of appropriate action on the part of the State, the monks of Sikkim shall be compelled to initiate suitable course of action as may be deemed fit”.
