Kamrang Govt College lecturers dissatisfied with college administration

NAMCHI, 13 Nov: The teaching faculty of Kamrang Government College, Namchi, is dissatisfied with the way the college administration is functioning.
Speaking to media-persons today, they alleged that they have not been receiving their salaries on time and have not received their increment and Dearness Allowance [DA] arrears.
They stated that they receive their monthly salaries after the 12 or 15 every month. Due to the delay in payment of salaries, many teachers who have taken loans from banks have to pay extra interest, they said.
The teachers alleged that staff of other colleges have received their arrears and some of their colleagues at the college also received their arrears after moving the files around themselves. “We have been appointed as teachers but we are also made to run around offices for our rights which is not proper,” they stated.
They also informed that they have not received the 10% hike in DA announced by the state government before the Diwali holidays. They further alleged that there is also delay in medical reimbursement, salary increment and other facilities provided by the state government.
They further added that the college administration does not give clear answers when approached. “If they explain to us what the problems are then we could also help find solutions to such problems”, they stated.
Meanwhile, ADM of Namchi Government College, Saraswati Syangden refuted allegations of delay in payment of salaries. Apart from some instances, the salaries are being released on time, she said. The college staff is getting salaries on the first of every month except when it is a holiday, she underlined.
On the delay in payment of arrears and DA along with other dues, Ms Syangden informed that as against the estimated demand of Rs 2.78 crore for the 2013-14 session, the HRDD has released only Rs 1.70 crore which was not sufficient. This, she said, is the reason behind the delay in payment of arrears and DA.
She further said that this demand was placed before the department last year and since then a number of teaching and non-teaching staff have been either transferred or appointed in the college and their salaries are also being managed from the above mentioned released amount.
Ms Syangden maintained that the staff is getting their salaries on time and they will have to wait for some time for other additional dues. “There is a system through which the money is transferred to the college administration and the transfer is under process. This is a system which cannot be changed”, she added.
