Dzongu farmers receive cash incentives for undertaking fodder plantation works

MANGAN, 20 Oct: The Animal Husbandry Department’s North district office organized a cash incentive distribution programme for 70 beneficiaries from Dzongu constituency who had undertaken fodder plantation works on their land holdings under the grassland development scheme, a 100% centrally sponsored scheme, here at the District Veterinary Hospital today. The function was presided over by the Hee-Gyathang GPU Panchayat President, Samroo Ugen Lepcha, as chief guest and was also attended by the BB Subba (Addl Director cum MD, North District Milk Union), LD Lachungpa (Addl Director, Feed/ Fodder, Head Office), Dr. SK Subba, Joint Director, Dr. KT Bhutia, Deputy Director, North, Dr. CP Rai Deputy Director, Dzongu subdivision and the beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries were provided cash incentives of Rs. 5,000 each and fodder seed mini kits of oat and maize to augmenting the winter green fodder reserves for their dairy animals. The plantation works were carried out by the beneficiaries in August 2013 under technical supervision of the Department. The farmers had earlier been provided planting materials and agricultural implements by the Department as prescribed in the project guidelines, it is informed.
The farmers were also provided orientation and training on the significance of balanced feeding of concentrate and roughage and the emergent need of time to raise quality fodder resources in their own backyards in order to make the dairy enterprise sustainable and viable in the long run. The area panchayats appreciated the gesture and expressed gratitude towards the department and the government.
A similar programme was earlier held for Lachen-Mangan constituency covering 70 other beneficiaries on 10 October.
