Turuk-Ramabung GPU gets a cyber café and guest house


GANGTOK, 16 Jan: A cyber café under the Information Technology Department and a guest house have been set up in Turuk-Ramabung Gram Panchayat Unit in South Sikkim. The café was formally inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat member, Farwanti Tamang in a programme held today, informs a press release.
After the formal inauguration Panchayat Account Assistant (PAA), Moses Lepcha presented details regarding the facilities available at the centre and informed that Basic Computer Crash Course, Internet Surfing, Photo Printing, Photo copy, Scanning, color printing, railway booking and all types of satellite TV recharge would be available at the centre, the release informs.
During the function, Field Facilitator of BAC, Sumbuk, Suren Mohra highlighting the importance of information technology in modern times also spoke about the achievements of Turuk-Ramabung GPU. He thanked all the Panchayat representatives for their commitment, dedication and concern for the development of the GPU on behalf of the people of the GPU.
Panchayat member of the GPU, RB Chhetri thanked the members of civil society for their support in making Turuk GPU one of the best GPUs in the state. At present, Turuk-Ramabung GPU is one of the top six GPUs of the state, he added.
Panchayat President, Sarat Raj Pradhan, in his address said that since being elected in 2007 introducing IT in the GPU had been a dream and urged people to make use of this facility, the release adds.
Secretary of Turuk Development Society (TDS), Harkajit Rai shared his experiences and requested all members of the society to lend a helping hand to make these infrastructures sustainable. Headmaster of Turuk Secondary School, TB Chhetri also addressed the gathering.
Chief guest, Farwanti Tamang in her address, thanked the Panchayat Representatives for the initiative and requested parents to send their children for computer training, the release further mentions. While, Panchayat Secretary, Kanchen Rai also placed a few words of appreciation.
The programme was also attended by President Turuk-Ramabung GPU, Sarat Raj Pradhan and all the members of GPU, Director of Turuk Child Development Centre, President and Secretary of Turuk Development Society, former presidents, teachers under this GPU, representatives from different Churches and local NGOs.
