In-Service Training on English for Primary Teachers of South Dist begins


NAMCHI, 09 Jan: A six-day Short Term In-Service Training of Government Primary Teachers of South District on English began today at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Namchi, and will conclude on 15 January. A total of 50 trainee teachers (primary teachers) from South District will take part in this training.

In the inaugural ceremony held today, Deputy Director, HRDD South AK Das was present as the chief guest. During the inaugural session the welcome address was presented by lecturer DIET, SK Hazra which was followed by an overview by Principal DIET, Dr. Ranjay Sinha.
In the course of overview presentation Principal DIET highlighted on the aims and objectives of the training and mentioned that the training is meant for development of proficiency in English of the trainee teachers and to impart skills on handling children. He also highlighted on the schedules of the training and informed that the lecturers of DIET along with the guest lecturer will impart the training.
 Apart from that the teachers will also be imparted training on other extra-curricular activities and other necessary topics that would help in the overall development of students, school and teachers as a whole. While sharing other necessary information, the Principal also informed that the training imparted will be based on CCE and RTE.
The chief guest in his address said that this training will equip the trainee teachers with the instrument and methods to handle the students, and by 2015 all the teachers should be trained along with proficiency development. In the meantime he urged the trainee teachers to communicate in English during their training period, and said that learning to communicate in English is a skill and the teachers should try and speak in English, as it is also the medium of instruction, he added.
He further said that the primary education of children in the state lay in the hands of the teachers and so they should cooperate to fulfil the dream of the Chief Minister of making Sikkim a completely literate state.
The classes focusing on English during the training period will be taken by lecturer DIET, Srijana Rai and guest lecturer from Government Senior Secondary School Namchi, Bandana Rai. While other lecturers of DIET namely Bandana Chettri, Komal Khatiwada, NK Hazra, NK Chettri a senior lecturer, SC Pradhan and Passang Lhamu Bhutia would conduct classes on other topics during the training period.
