District Monitoring Committee inspects CMRHM houses in Martam and Dentam blocks


GANGTOK, 19 Dec: The District Monitoring Committee [DMC] headed by the Additional District Collector (Dev), West inspected the progress of the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission in Hee-Martam and Dentam Blocks on 17 Dec.

A press release informs, the inspection tour started with a visit to Martam BAC where the monitoring team along with BDO Martam, BDO Dentam and local panchayats visited the house of Am Kumar Sharma of Bermiok-Berthang GPU.
The next house visited by the DMC was of Lata Kami from the Reteymatey-Thangsing ward, after thorough inspection of the site the ADC (D) felt the necessity of a protective wall behind the house which was communicated to the engineering cell of Martam BAC for follow up. The house was taken up under model A with Roof Top, however after proper verification of the columns by the engineers, the ADC (D) and Divisional Engineers (Zilla) advised the beneficiary to go for model C with RCC slab, the release informs.
Other than CMRHM houses, the team also visited the incomplete MMAY houses under Martam Block, where the ADC(D) asked the BDO Martam to submit details of all incomplete MMAY houses and also consulted with the D.E (Zilla) for the department to take up all incomplete MMAY houses. He also discussed the acute water crisis in the area with the BDO and asked the BDO to immediately put up a proposal for Rain Water Harvesting Tanks under MG-NREGA.
After Hee-Martam, the DMC headed to Dentam block where they went to Sanku Radhu Khandu GPU. The under construction houses of Ganga Ram Chettri and Santha Bir Panth of Upper Khandu were first visited by the team.
According to the release, it was found that the people have to travel a distance of 45 minutes through difficult terrain and trails to carry raw materials to the constructions sites. It was also observed that the head load for carrying raw materials are very high. Head load for a single bag of cement from road to the construction site costs Rs. 60 to 70 and same with sand and other materials.
However, despite the difficult terrain and high head loads the beneficiaries and the panchayats of Upper Khandu have committed themselves to go for a model C with RCC slab and have executed the work excellently, the release mentions.
ADC (D) praised the beneficiaries for undertaking construction work enthusiastically in such tough terrain.
Further the team also visited areas of Dentam GPU, Maneybong-Sopakha GPU, Pechrek-Martam GPU wherein they visited ongoing works in which technical advice was given to the masons and beneficiaries regarding effective drainage system and strong foundation for the houses, the release adds.
