Child Rights Commission tours West Sikkim


GANGTOK, 11 Dec: A team of Sikkim Commission for Protection of Child Rights headed by the chairperson, Manita Pradhan toured West District from 05-07 Dec. Ms. Pradhan was accompanied by Yangchen Ladingpa, Nimchoki Bhutia and other staffs, informs a press release.

On the first day, the team visited ICDS centres of Daragaon, Jorethang and crèche near Jorethang Senior Secondary School where it interacted with the children and also inspected the kitchen where the mid-day meal is prepared, the release informs.
On the same day the Commission visited Atish Dipankar Destitute Home of Chakung which houses 50 girls and 72 boys who attend Chakung Senior Secondary School. The team inspected both the boys and girls hostels and interacted with the residents wherein they learnt about their health, hygiene and education status.  
The next day the team visited Kaluk Destitute Home run by the Welfare Department and inspected the hostel rooms, kitchen and sanitation management. The team learnt that the home is providing accommodation to 69 boys studying at Kaluk Senior Secondary School, the release mentions.  The Commission also visited ICDS Centres of Upper Karthok, Namgaon and Lower Takuthang and finally visited Reshi Senior Secondary School.
On the final day the team visited ICDS centres of Yuksom, Khecheopokhari, Darap and interacted with the Anganwadi workers there. The team appraised them about the various schemes on children’s welfare initiated by the government and urged the Anganwadis to ensure that the benefits reach the target group. The commission will submit the detailed report of the tour and its recommendations to the concerned department, the release adds.
