Rabi campaign at Lower Dzongu

MANGAN, 07 NOV:  A total of 45 progressive farmers of Lum/Gor/Sangtok GPU of Lower Dzongu were provided with a day long training on Rabi Campaign; the programme was held here at Pheedang Lower Dzongu North Sikkm which was organized by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) under the Food Security & Agriculture Development Department. 
The programme was based on organic farming and informed the farmers on how to increase their knowledge of agriculture and allied activities and also to develop a cost effective and sustainable extension system to facilitate the farming community towards achieving prosperity.
While delivering the tips on farming methods of Rabi crops, the Deputy Project Director North, TT Lepcha stressed on the farming of wheat and mustard encouraging the farmers on the use of organic manure while farming the crops.   He also informed about the technical methods of sowing seeds and process of manuring and the precautions to be taken before sowing the seeds.
The Deputy Project Director also highlighted that ATMA is a society of key stakeholders involved in agricultural activities for sustainable agriculture development in the district.
Similary, the ward panchayat, Dawa Dorjee Lepcha expressed his gratitude to the department for providing such a fruitful scheme in the village and informed the farmers to benefit from the scheme.
Also on the day, the farm school was set up where Gyan Ongrub Lepcha one of the progressive farmesr from Lower Dzongu nominated as instructor for the farm school of Lum/Gor/Sangtok GPU.
Later, the farmers where provided with wheat seeds and Nalpak manure (organic manure) by the delpartment.
Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has been established in each district as an autonomous institution providing a flexible working environment involving all the stakeholders in project planning.
