SHRP dismisses CM’s North tour during Diwali as causing ‘inconvenience’

GANGTOK, 23 Oct: Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad has condemned Chief Minister Pawan Chamling’s upcoming tour of North District, the area worst affected by the 18 September earthquake.

The SHRPP has dismissed the tour contending that it would cause inconvenience to many government officials as well the general public because it comes during Diwali, an important festival, informs a press release issued by the party general secretary, Tara Shreshtha.
“Had the government been honest towards its people, the tour programme would have been made much earlier and not more than a month after the calamity,” the release contends, further adding that the Chief Minister could have postponed his tour considering the enthusiasm of those celebrating the festival, the release states.
SHRPP has also alleged that the government has failed to deliver relief to many even after a month has passed since the earthquake and of discrimination in the distribution of relief.
The release further contends that if the government employees including those affected by the earthquake could contribute a day’s salary for the relief fund, the public representatives should at least contribute six month’s salary with the Chief Minister contributing a whole year’s salary towards the relief fund.
SHRPP has also demanded that the accounts maintained in the relief fund received in both the Central and Chief Minister’s Relief Fund be made public.
