INTACH to survey damage to heritage monuments in Sikkim

GANGTOK, 13 Oct: Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage [INTACH] Sikkim Chapter held an emergency meeting on 27 September to express deep concern over the condition of cultural and natural heritage sites of Sikkim after the recent earthquake, informs a press release issued by the Convenor, Sikkim Chapter, PK Dong.
In consultation with its headquarters in Delhi, the Sikkim Chapter has decided to conduct a survey of various cultural heritage sites, especially monasteries in North Sikkim to find out the extent of damage and to assess the restoration work that would be necessary for each heritage monument, the release informs. 
The meeting appreciated the relief work being done by the Government, State, Central and NGOs. Considering that the need of the hour is to reach relief materials to the victims, especially those living in the far away remote corners of North Sikkim, it was decided that the proposed survey work be taken up in November.
It was expressed during the meeting that it would be advisable for all house owners to have their buildings insured to meet such eventuality, the release mentions.
The meeting also expressed condolence over the loss of lives and deep sorrow to those who lost their dear ones and also to those who suffered loss and damages of their properties.
