Senior Division Sikkim League kicks off

SIKKIM POLICE AND SSA START WITH COMPREHENSIVE VICTORIES
SAGAR CHHETRIGANGTOK, 31 Aug: A total of eight teams lined up for the Sikkim Football Association’s Senior Division Sikkim-League which started today here at Paljor Stadium.
Out of eight teams, Sikkim Police, Boy’s Club, Sikkim Sports Academy, SAI Namchi, D’zongri SC and United Sikkim Football Club had already had qualified for senior division, while Siniolchu Namchi and United FC [Jorethang] were promoted from the second division of Sikkim-League last week.
Two matches were played on the inaugural day of the senior division today.
In the first match, Sikkim Police defeated Boy’s Club 4-1, while Sikkim Sports Academy beat United FC [Jorethang] 3-1.
The first match was an interesting spectacle as it pitted the young squad of Boy’s Club against the experience of Sikkim Police. Although Boy’s Club lost the match, it played strong and neck-to-neck from the start to the last minute of the match.
A goal by Pahalman Subba helped Sikkim Police win the lead of 1-0 till the end of first half. In the first minute of the second half, Dinesh Rai extended the lead to 2-0 and again in the 49th minute his teammate, Naren Gurung added one more goal to the police team account.
With Sikkim Police leading the match 3-0, Ongden Lepcha scored a long range goal for Boy’s Club in the 54th minute.
But with the goal of Engpohang Subba in the 70th minute, Sikkim Police finished the game 4 goals to 1.
In the second match, Sikkim Sports Academy started ahead with a goal by Arjun Chettri in the 12th minute itself. Soon, Nima Tamang in the 25th minute and Yogel Lepcha in the 27th minute scored one goal each for SSA but, within 3 minutes of the SSA’s third goal, Sanjit Rai scored the face-saver for United FC in the 30th minute.
Despite many good opportunities no more goals were scored in the match and it ended with the score 3-1 in favour of SSA.
