Comptroller & Auditor General of India to visit Sikkim

GANGTOK, 02 Sept [IPR]: The Comptroller & Auditor General of India, Vinod Rai, is scheduled to be in Sikkim from 05 to 08 September.
The CAG will be hosted at the Raj Bhavan as a State Guest and will call on the Governor and the Chief Minister during his brief stay in Sikkim. He will discuss key strategic issues governing state finances and enhancing accountability while in Sikkim, it is learnt.
The CAG will also inspect the Accountant General’s Office here and interact with officers and staff on a variety of issues. His entourage is likely to include other senior officers of the CAG office. 
Mr. Rai took over as the Comptroller Auditor General of India in January 2008. He has wide experience of working in various capacities at both, the Federal and State Governments. His previous position was as Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, where he was responsible for managing the Financial Services sector, including banks and insurance companies. 
He has been a Director on several Boards including the State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, Life Insurance Corporation of India and Infrastructure Development and Finance Company of India. Mr. Rai has also served as the Principal Secretary (Finance) to the State Government of Kerala, apart from holding senior positions in the Ministries of Commerce and Defence. 
Mr. Rai’s present responsibilities in the international arena include membership of the U.N. Panel of External Auditors and of the Governing Board of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).  He is also a member of the Professional Standards Committee and Sub-Committee on Compliance Audit of INTOSAI and of the working groups on Environmental Auditing and Public Private Partnerships. Mr. Rai is the Member of the Governing Board of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI).
