103 trainees complete driver-cum-tour guide course

GANGTOK, 02 Sept: The convocation of the fifth batch of Driver-cum-Tour Guide training was held at the State Institute of Capacity Building [SICB], Karfectar, in Jorethang today.
Trainees from Singtam-Khamdong and Chujachen constituency were handed over their certificates by the Salghari-Zoom MLA, Madan Cintury, who was present as the chief guest and the SICB Chief Administrator, Shankar Dev Dhakal.
The course was taken by a total of 103 trainees- 25 from Chujachen Livelihood School, 50 from SICB, Jorethang and 30 from Singtam-Khamdong constituency. Twenty-five of the trainees have already been offered employment with a private company. The training was provided by Sikkim Motor Training and Engineering Institute (SMTEI).

In his address, the chief guest highlighted that if drivers dedicated themselves to the task at hand, they could build a self-reliant future for themselves and become their own masters.
He invited them to become the ambassadors of the peace, amity and tranquility of Sikkim and stressed that they carried the image of the State on their shoulders and should handle the responsibility with care.
The SICB Chief Administrator, in his address, stated that adequate knowledge on spoken English, Bengali, environmental study, heritage and natural resources of the State were imparted during the training.
He mentioned that the State government has been working tirelessly to help deliver skill development to the youth through the 30 livelihood schools operational in the state at present. 
He mentioned that more training programmes were in the pipeline and informed that since its establishment a year and a half ago, SICB has arranged placements for 449 youth trained at the livelihood schools.
The SMTEI Managing Director, MK Pradhan, in turn, announced to provide placement to seven trainees in his company itself.
