Rinchenpong hosts State-level Tendong Lho Rum Faat celebrations

GYALSHING, 09 Aug [IPR]: Tendong Lho Rum Faat was celebrated in grand fashion at Rinchenpong BAC, West Sikkim, yesterday. Chief Minister Pawan  Chamling, who was present as chief guest on the occasion, in his address highlighted that the festival was recognised as a state festival after the SDF government came to power. He further reassured that every community in Sikkim was well protected and secured and appealed to all to introspect on the facilities, security, peace and tranquillity provided by the present government.

While responding to demands put forward by the president, All Sikkim Lepcha Association, on the issue of separate reservation for Primitive Tribe Groups in the State, the Chief Minister said that reservation alone cannot uplift a community until individuals strive for success in this competitive world. He further shared the possibility of reservation in higher studies and jobs in the state for the upliftment of the community.
The CM also announced a series of works that have been sanctioned in the first phase of his village-to- village tour in West, South and East Sikkim which includes 100% construction of school auditorium, school play grounds and toilets, community centres, jhora training and irrigation channels, power connection to left-out houses, horticulture, agriculture, floriculture and fisheries benefits to the public, benefits in tourism, 90% carpeting of roads and 50% provision of drinking water.
Earlier, Minister AH/VS, DNThakarpa, and Minister, Agriculture & Cash Crops, Dawcho Lepcha also addressed the programme.
Literary programme featuring poetry recitations, essay competition, debate, story writing, was also held. The programme also included the presentation of a ‘Letter of Appreciation’ to the Principal, St. Xavier’s, Pakyong, Father Gerard for inclusion of Lepcha language in the ICSE board. The Letter of Appreciation was received by Nim Tshering Lepcha on his behalf. A display of traditional stalls and release of Lepcha books were the other highlights.
