First external audit of Sikkim Organic Mission gets underway, certificates expected by November

GANGTOK, 22 Aug: International Panaceae Limited from New Delhi is one of the service providers mandated by the Sikkim Organic Mission to establish Internal Control Systems (ICS) for organic certification for the year 2010-11. IPL has been given charge of an area of 2000 hectare covering the GPUs of Central Pendam, East Pendam, Sumin Ligzey and Pacheykhani in East Sikkim. OneCert Asia Certifications of Jaipur has been chosen as the External Certifying Agency.
After completion of field-related activities and maintenance of documentation, the final activity of external audit for award of “In-Conversion Year-1 certificate” got underway with Central Pendam on 17 August, a press release informs. IPL has completed all the necessary field activities and documentation starting from awareness meetings on organic farming, registration of farmers, maintenance of Farmer Diaries, training, Internal Inspection etc.
The External Audit  is being carried out by Dr. I Bomcha  of OneCert Asia along with the IPL Project Coordinator Hoshiar Singh Vashisth and Field Supervisors Karma Tashi and Deepak Dahal. The team is also being accompanied by the respective Field Inspectors of various wards - Karma Daubo, Tashi Bhutia, Pushpa Lal Sharma, Anupama, Sabita, Sakuna, Binita and Manmaya.
This is the first of the External Audits initiated in the total allocated area of 18,000 Ha for the year 2010-11 by the Sikkim Organic Mission. Mr. Bomcha the external audit team has expressed satisfaction with progress in project implementation in the areas inspected so far. The C1 certificates (Inconversion 1st Year) are expected to be issued by November 2011.
