SHIFTING BLAME WILL NOT RESOLVE ANY ISSUE

Letter:
Sikkim University continues to try and argue itself out of some fundamental problems it has got itself into. In rebutting the charge that the university has not done enough for gaining the confidence of the people by getting local faces into the executive and academic councils the SU VC has said that the Government of Sikkim has not provided names. This has been reported in several papers. This shows two things. One that the SU VC accepts the charge. Two the University also accepts the there is a very big disconnect with the State administration. This is most unfortunate.

Why should the GOS not send names? This can only happen if there is total failure in connecting and finding ways and means. By showing the ‘State is at fault syndrome whilst I am OK’ can only be considered as absolving oneself of responsibility. It will not resolve any issue. Public perception will not alter either.
Where has there been any call for participation? No one seems to be aware of any such proactive interest from the side of the University.
Furthermore, in the rules for affiliation there is a clause that the VC can lower the bar if he so chooses. May be sound judgement on this can surely be exercised if the VC is on the side of the people of this State especially the students. Else the State will be forced to find other mechanisms to accommodate the aspirations of the people of Sikkim.
