Bottled water manufacturing unit inaugurated at GFPF

SINGTAM, 20 July: The Government Fruit Preservation Factory [GFPF] at Singtam is now branching out into manufacturing bottled water as well. Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today inaugurated the new facility at the GFPF complex which will manufacture the bottled water under the brand-name “Sikkim Supreme”. It is set to hit the market next month. Work on the project has been underway for the past four months.

The GFPF Managing Director, Karma Zimpa, informed that the new plant was established as part of a brand extension initiative of the unit. The water for bottling will be sourced from the hill streams above Singtam, the quality of which has already been tested. The MD highlighted that the stream water has the quality of mineral water.
The plant has a 7-stage water purification process, a major USP over other units which make do with a 5-stage purification.
Interestingly, the new facility has been commissioned using the existing manpower of the factory with 10 workers having already completed training with the Bureau of Indian Standard [BIS].
The MD further informed that in the next 6 months, GFPF will also complete the process to launch club soda water.
After inaugurating the plant, the CM visited the different sections in the plant and assured to provide all required support for the modernization of the unit. The CM halted at the GFPF during the course of his village-to-village tour of the State which completed its 28th day today.
The government, he said, will do its part to support the modernization plans for GFPF, adding that the personnel here will have to reciprocate by pursuing skill development and ensuring a good work culture at the unit to meet the challenges and demands of the present times.
