Agriculture Secy to meet protesting MR and WC employees on Monday

GANGTOK, 02 June: After the MR employees of Agriculture and Horticulture Departments gheraoed their headquarter yesterday in protest against the Departments’ tardy progress on the regularization of their services, the Secretary, Vishal Chauhan, who is currently on tour with the Chief Minister has conveyed word that he would meet the MR employees on 06 June at 11 a.m. in his office. His message has thrilled the protesting employees since the meeting has been preponed, suggesting that the Secretary sympathizes with their sense of urgency to address the issue.
Speaking to NOW!, DB Rasaily, treasurer of the All Sikkim Muster Roll and Workcharged Employees Association and also the in-charge of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department, said, “As per the advice of the senior officers of the Department, we had decided to meet the Secretary on 07 June. But the Secretary has given us appointment on 06 June itself.”

He expressed happiness over this latest development and expressed hope that the meeting will yield fruitful results in favour of the aggrieved employees.
According to Mr. Rasaily, the Department’s administrative section today explained the reason behind the delay in the preparation of the seniority list of the MR employees.
He said, “The delay, according to the administrative section, was because around 50 employees have not submitted the required documents for inclusion in the list.”
The criterion to include an employee in the seniority list, according to Mr. Rasaily, is proof of his/her date of appointment, the employee must submit a certificate from the concerned official who had appointed him/her or copy of the first Pay Bill or an office order of appointment issued by the Department. Along with this document, the employee should furnish certificate proving date of birth and the details regarding place of work, posting, designation etc.
“The reasons behind not submitting these documents could be that they wanted to supercede their seniors but don’t have the supporting documents,” he said.
Today’s meeting came to the conclusion that the seniority lists will be prepared before 06 June and excludes the names of those who do not submit the documents.
“We will submit both the lists to the Secretary,” he said, adding that under any circumstances, the names of the defaulters will not be included in the seniority list unless they furnish valid documents.
Mr. Rasaily further claimed that the meeting will be fruitful because the notified seniority list of the employees will be tabled with the Secretary and also since more than 300 employees including all the senior members of the Association will be attending the meeting.
