Tumin trains for community-based disaster management


GANGTOK, 04 May: A training programme on “Community Based Disaster Management Plan” was organized by the Disaster Management Faculty-Sikkim, GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment & Development, Sikkim, in collaboration with the Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department and supported by National Institute of Disaster Management at the Tumin Gram Prasashan Kendra here in East Sikkim.
The main resource person was Ashok Kumar Sharma, a Disaster Management Faculty at GB Pant Institute, who delivered power-point presentations and videos related to disasters and community based disaster management techniques, the release adds.

Mr. Sharma requested all to prepare disaster management plans and also explained Village Disaster Management Team, its roles and responsibilities. Panchayats were requested to form disaster management teams in each ward for disaster management. All participants formulated preparedness plans for their respective wards, sketching the ward map and highlighting hazard prone areas, resources available etc, the release informs.
Panchayat of 40-Tumin GPU, Hem Raj Adhikari, also addressed the participants  and said that this type of training programmes are very useful for all communities and thanked the Disaster Management Faculty-Sikkim for organizing this programme, the release adds.
There were more than 70 participants in the training which included Panchayat members, Panchayat Secretary, Panchayat Presidents, RDAs, SHGs, NGOs, and villagers.
