Summit to engage youth in Climate Change dialogue

GANGTOK, 06 May: “Youth Alliance for Climate” [YAC], a network of the youth from the North East, has announced plans to organise a youth summit on 20 May at ICFAI University campus, Lower Sichey, Gangtok. The programme, a press release informs, is being held in “active association” with Laya and INECC (Indian Network on Ethics and Climate Change).
In a bid to generate awareness on climate change young people from different parts of northeast came together to form Youth Alliance for Climate in 2008 as a youth programme conducted by Indo Global Social Service Society as part of its SMILE programme. The participants of that programme decided to form a network as the discussion of the youth programme was on climate change, the release informs.

YAC organises programmes in different parts of the North East. Most of the programmes are with the young people of the region which includes school and college students and other young people.
Laya is a Resource Center for Adivasis and is based in Vishakhapatnam. Laya has worked with Adivasi communities for more than 2 decades and has gone through several stages of success and experienced many obstacles in addressing their core concerns, the release adds. On the other hand, INECC is a loosely structured national network comprising of individuals and organisation representatives interested in the climate issue from a micro-macro perspective, the release further mentions. It connects the issues of climate change to larger sustainable development and social justice concerns. In this context INECC perceives policy changes in favour of communities who are most impacted by the climate crisis.
