Young lawyers complete SLSA orientation


GANGTOK, 24 April: The Valedictory function of the “Orientation-cum- Training Programme for lawyers [with upto 4 years of practice]” organized by the Sikkim State Legal Service Authority [SSLSA] was held at Chintan Bhawan on Saturday. More than 60 practicing lawyers attended the orientation programme.
Justice SP Wangdi [Judge, High Court of Sikkim and Executive Chairman, Sikkim State Legal Service Authority], the chief guest, while addressing the gathering pointed out that a lawyer plays a pivotal role in society as they are there to serve the people in need of legal help and rendering justice to the people without any bias. “Lawyers are responsible members of the society who can bring a change in a society,” stressed Justice Wangdi.


“The advocates/lawyers are leaders among intellectuals, but in order to become a good lawyer, one has to be very consistent, smart and honest,” stated Justice Wangdi.
He added that the reason behind the establishment of SLSA was to ensure that the fruits of democracy percolated down to the common people. “The disparity between the haves and have nots is evident in today’s era and in order to reverse this process the SLSA had to come into existence,” he stated.
Further, he expressed hope that the orientation benefited the young trainees who learned valuable lessons from the programme. He appealed to the young lawyers to deliver good service to the people and help in upgrading the society and urged them to get together, express themselves and discuss to from an opinion about their training.
RB Subba [Legal Advisor to the Chief Minister], the guest of honour, in his address, said that such orientation was very important for the lawyers in making as it gives them a platform where they can really learn valuable lessons from the more experienced seniors. He added that lawyers were the officers of the court and held an important position in society. 
The program also included the presentation of gifts to the resource persons A Moulik, AK Upadhaya, Bhaskar Raj Pradhan, KT Bhutia and N Rai [Senior Advocates, High Court of Sikkim], SS Hamal and UP Sharma [Advocates].
