Sapta Mahapuran For World Peace concludes in Namchi


NAMCHI, 14 April: The “Sapta Mahapuran for World Peace” organised by the Namchi Puja Committee at the Parking Plaza premises here concluded Thursday. The prayers had begun on 09 April and enjoys the active support of 12 local NGOs. The programme was inaugurated by the Namchi-Singithang MLA, Binod Rai.
The prayers were conducted under the guidance of Rohit Raj Maharaj of Mangal Dham, Kalimpong, assisted by Premananda Shastri. The Sangitik Toli assisting them comprised of Shyam Dumi, Bishal Pranami, Braj Kishoreji and Shrawan Ghimirey.

The Namchi Pooja Committee, headed jointly by Tarakeshwar Prasad, Dilip Tamang, Gopal Dhungel, Bharati Basnett, BK Rai, Pushpa Chettri, NB Thapa, Renu Pradhan, Devi Pradhan and Benu Pradhan, was the primary organisers of the event. Evening bhajans were presented by various religious organisations from in and around Namchi. The Geeta Path was conducted by Tulsi Swarupji Maharaj and Deepak Shastri from Gangtok.
Through the Sapta Mahapuran, each day began with Yoga from 4 to 5 a.m., followed by morening prayers from 5 to 10:30 a.m. Bhagwad Katha was held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by Bhajans in the evening from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
As per the organising committee, around 1,000 devotees attended the prayers on a daly basis and explained that the primary aim behind holding the Sapata Mahapuran, apart from praying for universal peace, was for religious awareness to awaken among the people and to inculcate a positive attitude among the youth.
They further stated that all school children had been invited to attend the Sapta Mahapuran and commented that people from different religious backgrounds were invited to the prayers in an effort to help bring about religious integration.
